In almost every diet, there is a moment…a danger zone…where there’s a real chance your diet will fail. Knowing what that moment is, and what to do, can be the difference between being frustrated and stuck at your current weight, or finally losing the weight and having the body and life you deserve.
The moment when most diets fail
You’ve been working hard, doing your best to stay on track, maybe you had a small cheat, but nothing major. You get on the scale and…it hasn’t budged. Or worse, you’ve gained weight.
That’s the moment you feel discouraged and frustrated. You question your ability to be successful. You think, “This is never going to work. I might as well give up now.”
What to do
When you hit that moment, here are some strategies for getting through without derailing your weight loss efforts.
First, the best thing you can do for yourself when you are on a diet is to NOT weigh yourself every day. Your weight will fluctuate based on a lot of different factors. The scale is not your friend in this situation. We know it’s tempting, but don’t constantly weigh yourself. Stick to your program and trust the process.
Second, if you do have that moment and you feel like giving up and eating that piece of cake, or pizza…do something else.
Take a walk. Exercising helps take your mind off of eating. It also releases endorphins which can make you feel better. Feel good about yourself for making a healthy choice to go for a walk.
Drink a tall glass of water. A big glass of water can help make you feel full. And again, you can congratulate yourself for making a healthy choice.
Reach out for support. You don’t have to do this alone. Having other people cheer you on can make a big difference. That’s why on the Personal Trainer Food program, you can talk to weight loss coaches, or join our Facebook page to share your struggles and get support from people who are rooting for you.
So put away that scale. Focus on non-scale victories like these!
