St. Patrick’s Day celebrations include traditional foods and beverages. How can you enjoy the holiday but still stay on track with your weight loss goals? Here are some Do’s and Don’ts for what to eat and drink on St. Paddy’s Day.
Corned Beef and Cabbage – A definite Do. This holiday favorite goes right along with the Personal Trainer Food lifestyle, so dig right in!
Shepherd’s Pie – A “meh,” probably Don’t. The main issue with Shepherd’s Pie is that it is high in carbs because of the mashed potatoes. It also contains starchy vegetables that are not recommended on the PTF program. If you have a choice, go with the Corned Beef and Cabbage instead. If you don’t have a choice and do choose the Shepherd’s Pie, avoid the potatoes on top (though we know that’s the best part!) Or substitute mashed cauliflower on top for a healthier alternative.
Green Beer – Definite Don’t. PTF recommends not drinking alcohol while on the program. It can stall your weight loss. We know some people tout that Guinness has a lower calorie count than most other beers, but do yourself a favor and add some green to your water instead with fresh mint or basil. Here are some zero calorie beverage ideas.
