First of all, if you are a new mom, congratulations! If you are like most new moms, you may be a little anxious to lose the baby weight.
For some women, the extra weight seems to fall off magically the instant they start breast-feeding their sweet little bundle of joy. For the rest of us, we have to put in a little more effort to shed those pregnancy pounds.
Here are 7 Suggestions to Help You Shed Baby Weight:
- Be patient.
As they say, it took 9 months to put on the extra weight, so don’t expect to lose it over night. - Don’t restrict your calories.
Personal Trainer Food does not use caloric restriction to lose weight. And since ours are just the same foods you would buy at the grocery store or eat at a restaurant, they can be eaten while you are breast-feeding. Just keep in mind that your milk supply is your #1 priority, and requires you eating when you are hungry. You can always add food if you get hungry. Following our Guidelines is a perfect method to ensure you are eating enough high-quality, nutrient-dense foods while avoiding empty calories. - Drink water.
You might have forgotten by now how thirsty you were when you first started breast-feeding. Your body is producing milk to sustain the life of your little one (which is pretty amazing, right?!), so keep getting plenty of fluid to stay hydrated. And of course, drinking water is also a great way to flush out your system, thus helping with the weight loss process. - Get outside.
If you are in any way suffering from the post-partum blues, or even just a little stir crazy, put that stroller, or baby carrier to use! (Added bonus: you tone your legs and glutes if you go the carrier route!) Don’t underestimate the positive effects of fresh air for your mood. - Take a little time for yourself.
You are in high demand these days, and exhausted. All those night wakings, and you can’t get a nap in to save your life! Ask for help. Let your spouse or family member take over for a few hours while you get a manicure or, let’s be honest…while you take a much needed nap! - Be patient.
It is worth repeating. Yes, you want your pre-baby body back, and yes you will get there. But your body went through some pretty dramatic changes to bring your little miracle into this world, so give it time to return to its former glory. - Enjoy your miracle.
It is a miracle, isn’t it? Did you ever think you could love something so much? Every day is new and amazing for you and your little one, so enjoy every minute of it.
