As a nation, we are overweight, yet we are one of the most nutritionally educated countries in the world. Is it possible that we have learned the wrong things?
Say it isn’t so! For the past 30 years, the experts have suggested the following: exercise more, eat less, count calories, avoid fat, eat whole grains, eat fruits. America has done exactly what the ‘experts’ have told us to do and yet obesity has skyrocketed. We exercise more today, we eat about the same amount of food that we did 30 years ago, fat consumption has decreased, we are eating more fruits and whole grains.
Yet we are fatter…by a lot!
Fact: from 1900 to 1970, The US government and the medical community taught us that cigarette smoking was not harmful.
Today however we know the truth. Cigarettes are deadly. So why were we mislead? Some say money the reason, but that is irrelevant to my point today. All we know is that the so-called ‘experts’ were dead wrong and we paid a huge price.
My friends, it’s happening again today yet on a much larger scale. With obesity rates approaching 70%, this epidemic will crush our civilization.
Let’s look at the healthiest country in the world: Japan. What do they do for diet and exercise? Simple! They eat meats, vegetables, eggs, and nuts. They avoid sugar and processed food like poison. True, they eat white rice– but 59% of Japanese eat 4 ounces or less each day. (The white rice reputation became famous after we dropped the Atom Bomb in World War 2, and rice was the main staple of Japan for the next 10 years as they were rebuilding.)
The Japanese today eat simple natural foods. Yes, they eat fat in their meat. They DO NOT COUNT CALORIES. They do not exercise that much. Why? Because they eat right. THEY DO NOT measure food. They eat until they are full. But they can do this because they avoid processed foods and sugar. They do not eat as much fruit as we do. In fact, they view fruit as ‘natures dessert’ and eat it in small quantities.
Is this making sense? The healthiest country in the world simply eats natural foods.
No…I did not say ‘Range Fed-Organic-100% Natural Whole Grain-Yard Grazed-Etc, Etc’. The Japanese do not get lost in all the marketing hoopla that we do. Nor do they pay attention to nutritional labels. They use common sense and eat simple foods. The Japanese view eating as part of life, not some huge event. While they enjoy great tasting food, they understand that taste is secondary. Eating natural food that tastes good is what they are about.
