Why is it when we start our journey toward a new, healthier lifestyle, we always start by stepping on that dusty, dreaded scale?
Though the scale can be a useful tool to measure numeric success, it often becomes our worst enemy. We naturally start our journey with a positive attitude, and tons of motivation. We fantasize about that perfect number on the scale, the number that will make us feel sexier, more confident, and simply happier. FORGET about it!! It’s just a number, it does not define you.
Imagine this: You wake up, have your morning coffee, and you’re tempted to hop on the scale. You consider all the hard work you’ve put in during the last week; eating healthier, the evening walks and avoiding your nightly glass of wine. You head to the bathroom and step on the scale one foot at a time, anxiously waiting for it to display that number that speaks for all your hard work. Then, all of a sudden, your confidence, motivation, even your self-worth is hit with a ton of bricks. You whisper to yourself “Half a pound? You’ve got to be kidding me.” The first emotion you feel is failure, then suddenly, you just want to run to the kitchen and eat that entire bag of chocolates you’ve been hiding from yourself for weeks.”
Well, with Personal Trainer Food, it’s not that way. We believe you should not let a scale be the only tool to measure our success. Everyone is different when it comes to weight loss. We encourage you to step away from the scale, and measure your success in a much more positive way.
Try this for 30 days:
- Put the scale away!
Out of sight out of mind. - Take before pictures.
This is not only a great way to feel proud of yourself (which you deserve), but it is very helpful to have these photos when you feel like you are falling back into old habits. - Take measurements.
This may sound cliché, but it is much more rewarding than the scale, and less discouraging. - Pay attention to how your clothes fit.
Be proud that you are one day closer to that goal, and making a positive change in your life.

I’m trying. This is different for me. Once we get to the weight we want to be, that’s when we need to pay attention to the scale, right? (In addition to how we feel and how our clothes fit.)

Hi Leigh,
Thank you for being a Personal Trainer Food client. The number on the scale will always be just that….a number. The scale can be very frustrating because it doesn’t reflect everything that is happening with your body. We truly suggest to measure your success by how your feeling, how your clothes are fitting, your mood, energy levels, how well you are sleeping…etc.
